Open access FTTP provider Tillman FiberCo LLC says that it has gotten an investment of $200 million from Northleaf Capital Partners. The investment could grow by another $300 million as Tillman FiberCo scales its operations.

New York-based Tillman FiberCo was founded in 2021 and is part of the Tillman Global Holdings portfolio, which was founded by Sanjiv Ahuja. The company invests in and operates telecommunications and energy infrastructure businesses in emerging markets.

The investment will be used to “accelerate” Tillman’s access networks with “future-forward technologies,” according to a press release. Tillman FiberCo LLC deploys symmetrical FTTP gigabit broadband networks for residential and commercial customers. Its enterprise and wholesale services include dark fiber, Ethernet and high-capacity special access services.

“Adding the support of a global investor like Northleaf is a tremendous endorsement of our model and the market opportunity ahead of us,” Tillman FiberCo CEO Ken Dixon said in the press release. “We’re confident that Northleaf’s infrastructure experience, sector expertise and extensive resources will enable us to accelerate our growth, execute our business plan and ensure the highest quality of service to our customers.”

This is not the only recent investment in telecommunications by Northleaf. Last November, the company – which controls $23 billion in funds – said that it had acquired a controlling interest in Mercury Broadband and would invest as much as $230 million over the next several years on its expansion.

Mercury Broadband, which also is known as Mercury Wireless, was a funding winner through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF). The company had funding authorized for bids in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas and had winning bids in Iowa and Nebraska.

In October 2020, the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA) and Tillman Infrastructure – another part of the Tillman Global Holdings – announced a partnership agreement under which WISPA members get priority access to Tillman’s wireless infrastructure and other benefits.
