Mirae Asset Global Investments is actively engaging in social contribution efforts both locally and overseas, focusing on nurturing human resources and establishing education infrastructure.
It has been offering various programs in financial and career education to increase economic and financial knowledge and skills. Since launching the global leadership program in 2006 for subscribers of its investment fund targeting children, Mirae Asset has initiated school tours, classes and camps to teach children and teenagers about economics. As of the end of March, more than 402,945 people have participated in skill nurturing programs offered by Mirae Asset Group subsidiaries so far.
Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation is leading the group’s social contribution activities. Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has donated all of the dividends he has received from Mirae Asset for 13 consecutive years since 2010, following his pledge announced in a letter to Mirae Asset employees. Including the 1.6 billion won ($1.21 million) donated this year, the donations over the past 13 years have amounted to 29.8 billion won.
The donations are spent on nurturing young people and other social welfare programs through Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation and Mirae Asset Hope Foundation. Established in 2000 with a 7.5 billion won donation from Park, his namesake foundation has been focusing on developing human resources. As the group’s global strategy officer, Park has stressed the importance of nurturing expertise in the younger generation while looking into the future with open minds.
One such initiative is its overseas scholarship program for college students. Since 2007, a total of 6,479 college students were sponsored to study overseas and experience foreign cultures. The foundation has also been running a variety of support programs for younger people including children and teenagers.
The group is also actively leading social contribution efforts overseas, including in Vietnam and India. Established in 2018, its foundation in India has been offering scholarship programs for college and graduate school students, as well as those pursuing MBAs.
It is also supporting children and teenagers of underprivileged households to help them access knowledge and experience. In cooperation with NGOs, it subsidizes participants’ tuition and supports the educational needs of disabled learners. It also supports the establishment of education infrastructure in underdeveloped regions, including providing computers and tablets.
“Mirae Asset has supported more than 400,000 people here under close communication and cooperation between Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation and the group subsidiaries,” a spokesman at the company said.
“We will keep engaging in diverse social contribution activities both within the country and overseas, to give back what we have gained from customers and society and contribute to the expansion of a culture of sharing.”
