Chinese companies plan to invest around $600m building a meat farming hub in Kazakhstan, Azernews reports.

Kazakhstan’s agriculture minister Aidarbek Saparov reached the agreement with executives from Chinese companies CITIC Construction and Beijing Capital Agro.

Three Kazakhstani companies – Meat Processing and Service, Agro Silk Way, and Astana Agro Product – have signed contracts with Chinese counterparts to export meat and livestock.

The farming hub would be implemented in stages over the next six years.

When it is complete, it will consist of some 600 farms and feedlots employing about 3,500 people. CITIC Construction, the engineering subsidiary of state-owned conglomerate CITIC Group, is in line to carry out the building work.
